Thanks, Chris, for sending in this neato scan of Ramon Novarro for The Annex.

July 31, 2005

Check out our final Eleanor Powell scan.

And Mary Miles Minter revisits The Annex, thanks to Mark.

July 30, 2005

One good Powell deserves another!  Here are two pictures of perky songbird Jane Powell, for Eric.

On another note―totally unrelated to the movies:  was there ever a better scherzo written than Felix Mendelssohn's third movement lighter-than-air masterpiece in his first piano trio?  I think not!  I listened to it while preparing these scans and, for the umpteenth time, marveled at its delicacy, simplicity and perfection.

Anyway...back to the films.

July 29, 2005

Check out the three new Marion Davies pictures in The Annex.  Thank you, Mark and William, for sending in these great images!

And enjoy Humphrey Bogart in a pose from The Maltese Falcon.  This is a guest contributor scan sent in by Hans for The Annex―thank you for a popular and beautiful picture!

July 27, 2005

Here's a new face:  popular actor Macdonald Carey.

And Anchors Aweigh!  More Abbott and Costello.

July 26, 2005

Today we have a picture of lovely Loretta Young.  This one is for Bob.

Also check out the color version of one of our Hedy Lamarr pictures in The Annex, sent in by Jayce.  Thank you, Jayce, for this beautiful version.

July 25, 2005

Brian sent us a nice scan of Hedy Lamarr from the Internet for The Annex, and we rounded it out by adding ten more Marilyn Monroe images.

We also, finally, have a nice film clip of Bette Davis in Now, Voyager.  In this scene she befriends Janis Wilson and encourages her to call her father, played by Paul Henreid.

July 24, 2005

Now,
Voyager

Here's the third of four Eleanor Powell pictures.

July 23, 2005

Why not?  Here are three new pictures in The Annex Johnny Mack Brown, Dolores Del Rio and Bela Lugosi.

Also check out this great colorized version of an Eleanor Powell scan from yesterday, in The Annex―prepared by Nick.  It just seems to jump off the screen at you.  Great result, Nick!

July 22, 2005

Enjoy our new Eleanor Powell picture.

And don't miss this film clip of Laurel and Hardy in Sons of the Desert.  In this scene, they meet up with tiresome jokester Charlie Chase at a convention.  [Note:  video removed 12/3/2006]

We also added several songs sung by Betty Hutton.  Check out these gems!

In between Eleanor Powell scans, I was rummaging around in the hopper and came up with this lovely picture of Fay Wray.  We'll have a few more of her along the way.

Also check out our second film clip from A Night at the Opera with The Marx Brothers.  This extended scene applies to two pictures on our site:  Sig Ruman having a run-in with the boys just before the opera begins; and Groucho extemporizing as a ballgame vendor.

Finally, Mark has sent us three Nancy Carroll pictures for The Annex.  Thank you, Mark.

Here are four gorgeous scans from a new guest contributor, Nick.  These have obviously been prepared with great expertise, artistry and care.  So, in The Annex we have Joan Crawford, Marion Davies, Norma Shearer and Gene Tierney.  Thanks, Nick!

We also have ten new scans of Marilyn Monroe in The Annex, gleaned from the Internet.

July 18, 2005

Here's a new face:  Eleanor Powellin a pose from her big tap dance number at the conclusion of 1936's Born to Dance.  We also have a movie summary and a film clip with the entire sequence.  This photo of Ms. Powell, and three more coming soon, are for Sylvie.

Also check out this unusual―and very high quality―scan of Boris Karloff in The Annex.  He's pictured in his sarcophagus, in The Mummy.  Kudos to Hans for providing this remarkable photo; also visit his compelling Ancient Egypt film site.

Our final Mickey Rooney picture is ready today, again from Andy Hardy Meets Debutante.

July 14, 2005

Mickey Rooney bows in today, in a photo from Andy Hardy Meets Debutante.  We have a movie summary too.  Also check out a clip from this interesting film; in our photo Andy is looking pretty grumpy, but in the actual scene he's positively buoyant.

Va Va Voom!  Hedy Lamarr  in The Annex.

Finally, yeoman Mark has supplied two fine, and unusual pictures for The Annex Ann Forrest and Agnes Franey/Myrna Loy.  Thanks, Mark!

July 13, 2005

We also attributed an existing Laurel & Hardy scan to their film Chickens Come Home, with a new movie summary.

July 11, 2005

Corrections to Four Existing Pictures

Thanks very much, Nici, for your eagle eye in pointing out these attributions!

July 8, 2005

Can you stand another Gene Tierney picture?  Well, here she is―what a gorgeous girl!  Juliana prepared this scan for us.  Thanks, Chickadee!

Also, over the next several days, we'll be introducing a new feature:  The Annex.  Pictures in The Annex will be periodic bonus photos for some of the stars showcased on our website.  Although these are not Doctor Macro scans, they are noteworthy pictures that will round out our basic collection.  These images have been downloaded from the Internet.

They'll be on distinct Annex pages within our website, and you'll be able to navigate to them from each star's regular gallery.  Our first Annex star is Ingrid Bergman, with six new images.  We hope you enjoy them!

July 7, 2005

Another Laurence Olivier picture today.

And Judy Garland charms us in a film clip from The Wizard of Oz.  Which reminds me:  Which old witch?

Finally, we're slowly adding movie poster artwork to the Movie Summaries.  Over time, we hope to have the artwork for all the movies represented on our site.  Check out these summaries to get a glimpse of what we're talking about:  Follow the Fleet, Gone With the Wind, and The Wizard of Oz.

July 3, 2005

Today we have a film clip of high-kicking Groucho Marx's famous "Hello, I must be going" musical number from Animal Crackers.  I must be-e-e...going.

Start your summer with a film clip of Buster Keaton in Spite Marriage.  Here he infiltrates a play in progress and wreaks havoc.  No one's happy―except the audience.
