A vacuuming
Harpo Marx
squares off with Sig Ruman in
A Night in Casablanca. This photo set the record for scratches,
pockmarks, water stains, gashes, spots, gouges, and other assorted blemishes. After
seven hours of retouching, we're happy with the final result―and relieved to
be able to move on to another picture.
We also have a solo picture of
Chico Marx from the same film. |

We present a new picture and accompanying film
clip today:
Lillian Gish in the dramatic banishment scene from
Way Down East, directed by
D.W. Griffith. In this
photo, Griffith apparently is demonstrating how he wants the scene played
(he doesn't appear in the film). Squire Bartlett (played by Burr
McIntosh) has found out about Anna's (Gish's) past and sends her out into the
night. Notice Lowell
Sherman (the mean bad guy!), far right, casually observing the proceedings. |
