We end November with a new
Laurel & Hardy scan―a
second one from
Twice Two.
There's also a new
Errol Flynn picture, from
They Died With Their Boots On. |
November 30, 2004 |
Well, we're back in the (upload) saddle again!
The ISP fixed its problems.
Today, we have a new film clip from
Hedy Lamarr's movie,
The Heavenly Body. In
this wry scene,
William Powell has just drunk a sleeping potion intended
for Hedy, and he's beginning to feel its effects. |
November 29, 2004 |
Sorry for the lack of updates the last few days.
Our ISP's upload service has had severe problems, making it next to
impossible to publish new web pages or pictures. Hopefully, they will
have them fixed soon. Thanks for your patience!
We did, however, finally manage (after 4
attempts) to add three new wallpapers from
Sylvie today:
Mae
Marsh,
The Marx Brothers and
Gloria Swanson. Thanks, Sylvie! |
November 28, 2004 |
Check out the new
Laurel & Hardy picture, from
their very funny
Liberty. This wonderful
tableau is
part of the famous extended pants-changing sequence where, in desperation,
Stan and Ollie
try to get their own pants back on, in a vacant taxi. As two new
passengers prepare to enter the cab, they surprise the embarrassed boys, who
exit quickly.
The lady is a very young
Jean Harlow. Also, don't miss the cabbie's
face and bright eyes at the far right of the picture!
Happy Thanksgiving to all. |
November 25, 2004 |
We offer a fourth and final
Marx Brothers picture from
The Cocoanuts.
Next, on to
Duck Soup. |
November 24, 2004 |
There are two new desktop wallpapers from
Sylvie:
Charlie Chaplin and Joan Bennett. Thanks, Sylvie!
We also continue our foray into
Marx Brothers country with
another picture from
The Cocoanuts.
There is also a new movie summary for
Laurel & Hardy's film
Liberty.
Finally, welcome Maggie and Dan! I hope
you enjoy the website. |
November 23, 2004 |
Attributed a
John Wayne picture to his
early film
The Big Trail.
Thanks to Jeroen's sharp eye on this one! Added a movie summary as
well. |
November 22, 2004 |
We've added more
Bebe Daniels links. |
November 21, 2004 |
Here's one more picture of
Errol Flynn, shooting 'em up
in
San Antonio. |
November 20, 2004 |
Two new
Laurel & Hardy pictures
arrive, from
Their First Mistake
and
Twice Two (yes, that's
Stanley in drag!).
We also have a super-size scan of
Errol Flynn, from
Santa Fe Trail.
Please note that this is a very large file. |
November 19, 2004 |
Today, we add two new
Charlie Chaplin pictures:
from
The Gold Rush and
Shoulder Arms. These
two scans complete our Chaplin section―at least for now. |
November 18, 2004 |
We've got a new
Marx Brothers picture from
The Cocoanuts. |
November 17, 2004 |
We offer a final
Bette Davis picture―the
fifteenth in our series for this beautiful, dynamic actress. |
November 16, 2004 |
Start your week off right with two
Bette Davis pictures:
one, an early pose against a wrought iron background, and the other sitting
pensively. |
November 15, 2004 |
For Sunday, we have
Errol Flynn in a large group
picture from the close of
The Adventures of Robin Hood.
He is accompanied by the lovely and virtuous Olivia de Havilland. |
November 14, 2004 |
More
Laurel & Hardy.
This time, the picture is from
Sons of the Desert. |
November 13, 2004 |
Another
Laurel & Hardy scan debuts
today,
from
The Private Life of Oliver the Eighth. |
November 12, 2004 |
There is a new
Marx Brothers picture
from
The Cocoanuts. We'll
eventually have four scans from this, their first sound film. |
November 10, 2004 |
I was so tired from the last scan, it took a
couple days to do another one. Here we have
John Wayne pictured in an
early movie (I'm not sure which one, or who the girl is). This is our
last picture of The Duke for now.
Now, a special treat, requested by a
Lon Chaney fan from Brazil:
a scene of the great actor in
London After Midnight (a film presumed to be lost). Thanks to
Jack Theakston for a great
action photo! We also added a summary for this film. |
November 9, 2004 |
Another new
Bette Davis picture
arrives (close-up portrait). In deciding whether to buy this photo, I
noticed that some thoughtful soul long ago managed to spill a soft drink on
it. There were splashes, bubbles and stains all over the picture.
But there was a stunning Bette Davis beneath all of it, so I decided to
have a go at cleaning it up. Guess which stains were hardest to
remove: The face? No. The hair? Well, that was
tough, but no. The most difficult ones, by far, were between the polka dots in the dress. I have a new
appreciation for dry cleaners!
Anyway, I hope you feel the final product is worth the
effort. |
November 7, 2004 |
We have a new
Bette Davis picture
(descending the stairs). |
November 6, 2004 |
Today we add a neat film clip from
The Secret Six,
starring
Wallace Beery. Although
the clip lasts just two and a half minutes, Beery is seen with, count 'em:
Clark Gable,
Jean Harlow,
Johnny Mack Brown, Lewis Stone and Murray Kinnell. There was
a lot of MGM firepower in this curious 1931 film. Beery and Harlow
never appeared together in the exact scene depicted in our photo―it must
have been a publicity shot. However, in the movie they are indeed
shown wearing the clothes in our photo, but in entirely separate scenes.
And Harlow's character in the film was in love with Johnny Mack Brown―not
Beery! Oh, well...
Also check out the second
Laurel & Hardy
scan from
Pack Up Your Troubles. |
November 5, 2004 |
Another
Laurel & Hardy scan arrives
today. This time the boys are shown in
Pack Up Your Troubles. |
November 4, 2004 |
A new
Clara Bow scan appears today, from
her film
The Plastic Age.
She is also represented in an exotic, numinous pose
here. These two
pictures wrap up our Clara Bow series for now. We've once again placed
a zip file on her
page 1,
with all 26 scans for your downloading convenience. |
November 3, 2004 |
I love
Clara Bow. Here's a
photo from her film
Red Hair,
released in 1928.
Another
Clara Bow, this time in
The Saturday Night Kid, in an
interesting group photo (from left,
Jean Arthur, Clara, Jean
Harlow, Leone Lane).
And rounding out today's offerings, we've got a
new film clip of
Joan Blondell from
Gold Diggers of 1933. |
November 2, 2004 |
We kick off turkey month with one last
Marx Brothers picture (our
sixth) from
At the Circus. Here,
they're forming a human pyramid. From the look on Groucho's face, he
doesn't like heights! We'll be
moving on to photos from
The Cocoanuts next.
There's also a film clip from
The Phantom of the Opera,
starring
Lon Chaney, Sr. This is
the famous unmasking scene―one of the most compelling and frightening
ever filmed.
One last note: we also (finally!) found a
movie summary for
Charley Chase's film
Time Out for Trouble. |
