We end February with the debut of
William Gargan.
He's pictured in a lovely shot with
Frances Dee from

to Tanja who confirmed the information about this picture.

Another new face today:
Jane Bryan, from
1939's
We Are Not Alone. Here,
she converses in the garden with Flora Robson (at right).
Also, look in the right middle of the picture
(at bellybutton level). Do you see the pruned leaf suspended in
midair? Or is it really still attached to the plant by that thin stem
to its right? In any event, don't spend too much time on it!
Horticulturally yours, Doctor Macro! |

If nothing else, we're flexible. Tanja
called our attention to the correct star pictured in today's first photo.
It's
Madge Evans―not
Marlene Dietrich. Sorry
about that. Tanja starts Monday as my copy editor and proofreader.
And, presto chango! We have a real
Marlene Dietrich photo, so
her fans aren't disappointed. Aldo's request for her was the impetus
for all this activity today!

Well, we've showcased his dad for some time now.
It only seems fitting to inaugurate a page for his talented offspring.
Greet today's new star,
Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., in a
romantic scene with
Rita Hayworth from
Angels Over Broadway.
We also have a neato picture of him from
The Prisoner of Zenda.

We have the pleasure of offering an interesting
scan of
Charlie Chaplin, from
The Circus. It's hard
to describe the miserable quality of the original photo for this famous
picture. Among other things, Chaplin had 4 staple holes in his
forehead. After hours of cleanup, here he is. This is one of
those pictures you could work on for weeks and still not get it perfect.
We hope you enjoy it!

Irene Dunne weighs in today,
with a wonderfully delicate visage in this first photo.
Our final image of Ms. Dunne is from
Show Boat, in which she
dances to
Helen Morgan's "Can't Help Loving That Man of Mine." She's
pictured here with Helen Morgan, Paul Robeson and Hattie McDaniel. We
also have a
film clip of this scene.

Celebrate Friday with the Del Ightful, Del Ectable
Dolores Del Rio. She's
shown in a classy pose from the 1930's. We'll have a couple more
pictures of her in the near future. And I promise this is Del Ast time
I'll get Del Literative.
We've also conjured up a picture of
Lon Chaney, Sr. in a magical
pose. This photo was rife with scratches and blemishes, but the
underlying image was definitely worth the effort! |

Sons of the Desert.
This is our final picture of him.

Monroe today.

The new image we added today was actually
Patricia Ellis and not
Sally Eilers. Thanks to
Tanja for catching this error!
We also added a movie summary for
Devil and the Deep
and a new picture of
Tallulah Bankhead from that
film. She's pictured with a young
Gary Cooper.

Today we add another new face to our website:
James Finlayson, perpetual foil to Stan and Ollie in many of the
Laurel & Hardy films.
He was uttering the frustrated exclamation "Doh!" 70 years before Homer Simpson.
While we have many new stars' pictures ready to
be added, we'll concentrate on filling in the blanks for existing people
over the next several days.
Afterward, you'll see lots of new actors and actresses! |

Here's our first look at
Walter Brennan. He's
shown in a photo from
The Cowboy and the Lady (1938).
Geraldine Farrar, the opera
singer and actress, also bows in today. The quality
of the original photo was very good, considering its age.

Another new star debuts today. It's
Ralph Bellamy, veteran
character actor. He's shown here in a photo that was probably taken in
the late 1930's.
What would a Desi be without a Lucy?
Here's a second scan of
Lucille Ball, sometime before her
I Love Lucy days.

Here is a rare image of
Karl Dane, the popular silent
star who ultimately had a tragic end as talkies arrived. Be sure to
read the poignant synopsis of his life at the Internet Movie Database link
on his page.
The original photo had lots of impairments―scratches, spots, tears,
water drops, etc. Someone had even thoughtfully handled
it with very dirty hands, leaving several convenient muddy prints all over the photo.
Although the final scan is somewhat below par in quality, it is still an
interesting portrait. |

Our third and final
Myrna Loy picture starts us off right
for February. Here's another early shot of this popular actress.
We added a new movie summary for
Jezebel, identifying an
existing
Bette Davis picture as being
from that film. We also renumbered the remaining pictures in her series. |
