I'm in love. This may be the prettiest
girl we've ever posted on our site. It's
Virginia Vale (real name Dorothy Howe), and Mark2 sent her to us.
Born in 1920, her acting career was relatively short—from the late 1930's
through the mid-1940's. She was
George O'Brien's most frequent leading
lady and they appeared together in a half-dozen RKO oaters. After
retiring from the screen, she worked for Lockheed for over 30 years.
My Dreamboat! Check out two film clips of her in action:
Prairie Law and
Triple Justice.
With so much swooning going on, I almost forgot
to credit Mark2 with a second picture today:
Billie Dove.
Marcel continues his winning streak with a scan
of
William Bendix.
Nick, Jane and Frédéric also have some new items
for us today:
Jane bounces in with three more pictures of
Gina Lollobrigida.
Mark sent us a nice image of silent screen star
Irene Rich from her 1926 film,
My Official Wife.
Jane identified one of our
Lucille Ball photos as being from
Ziegfeld Follies (1946), and Bob attributed one of our
Sophia Loren pictures as being from her 1955 film,
Woman of the River.
Thanks to our guest contributors!
We end with a film clip of
Olivia de Havilland and
Dirk Bogarde in
Libel.

A special treat today: nine new
Laurel and Hardy scans. Karl prepared these photos beautifully for
us, and we are indebted to him. His hard work, talent, and
collaboration have greatly enhanced our
Laurel and Hardy pages. Here are photos of the boys in:
Jane sizzles with four scans of the "Oomph
Girl,"
Ann Sheridan.
Steve has some new desktop wallpapers of
Clara Bow (3),
Judy Garland (3), and
Audrey Hepburn.
Frank alerted us to a neat link:
The Internet Archive - lots of complete movies and shorts, ready for
downloading—free!
Thanks to our guest contributors!
Finally, here are some
Laurel & Hardy film clips:
[Note: videos removed 12/3/2006]
-
The Bohemian Girl -
Thelma Todd sings up a storm with her band of gypsies, and the boys
discover Ollie's philandering wife (Mae
Busch) in flagrante delicto!
-
Do Detectives Think? - We replaced the current clip with the
complete movie.
-
The Live Ghost (complete)
-
Pack Up Your Troubles - in this scene Stan and Ollie maneuver a
well-timed hit, to outwit a nitwit cook

Mark2 prepared two gorgeous scans of
cute-as-a-button
Alice White.
Karl ferried over some shots of
Sophia Loren in
Arabesque, in
Houseboat (with
Cary Grant), and a posed shot.
Jane continues our
Audrey-a-thon with five pictures from
Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Nick, Jane and Frédéric have a scan of
Jackie Coogan in
The Kid (1921), by photographer James Abbe.
More songs today: Nelson Eddy and
Jeanette MacDonald singing five of their best known favorites.
And enjoy these three film clips of
Audrey Hepburn from
Sabrina:
-
a charming and poignant scene early in the
movie where, hiding in a tree, she pines for the local playboy, David
(William Holden)
-
Sabrina, now grown up and elegant, captures
David's fancy—although it's a stretch to believe he really doesn't know
who she is
-
at a party, David does a classy (but
affected) wall hurdle to get to Sabrina before her
admirers can scoop her up—I'd love to see the early takes of
this scene!
